What it is

A residence permit designed to skip the wait.

Sweden introduced this temporary residence permit in 2022 for highly educated professionals from outside the EU/EEA. The reason: standard work permit applications from outside Sweden can take 6–9 months to decide. Many qualified candidates can’t wait that long, and many Swedish employers prefer hiring people already in the country.

With this permit, you can come to Sweden first, then search for a job or start a business from inside. As soon as you find work (or decide to start a business), you can begin immediately — without leaving the country.

Maximum duration: 9 months. Cannot be extended. Choose your duration carefully.

Why This Visa Works

Three advantages over a regular work permit application.

🎯

Preferred by Swedish employers

Swedish companies often prioritise candidates already in Sweden. Being physically present unlocks interviews and offers that are otherwise hard to get from abroad.

Start working immediately

Once you find a job, you only need to submit a new work permit application. As soon as it’s submitted, you can begin working — no waiting outside Sweden for the decision.

🚀

Or start your own business

If you decide to start or buy a business in Sweden, you submit a separate residence permit application. As soon as it’s submitted, you can begin running your business.

Who Qualifies

The visa is for highly educated professionals.

Educational eligibility

To be eligible for the job seeking visa, applicants need one of the following qualifications:

  • A degree corresponding to at least a 60-credit Master’s degree
  • A 120-credit Master’s degree
  • A professional degree worth 60–330 credits
  • A postgraduate or PhD-level degree

Required documents

Beyond proof of higher education, you’ll need to submit:

  • Copies of all examination certificates
  • Copies of the official transcript of your academic record
  • Bank statements showing sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay and cover your journey home
  • Comprehensive health insurance — required by Migrationsverket. You can arrange this yourself (often cheaper in your home country), or we can purchase it on your behalf for an additional fee.

Education credentials are evaluated by UHR (Swedish Council for Higher Education) on behalf of Migrationsverket. We don’t evaluate your qualifications — we make sure your application reaches them correctly.

Sweden Job Seeking Visa
€890
per applicant · Migration Agency fees included · health insurance not included
Full end-to-end application processing including document review, submission, monitoring, and embassy guidance.
About the required health insurance Comprehensive health insurance is mandatory for this visa, but not included in the €890 price. Many applicants arrange their own insurance — often cheaper from their home country. If you’d prefer we handle it, we can purchase the policy on your behalf for an additional fee (cost depends on the duration you choose).
Refund Policy

Clear, two-scenario refund terms.

If the Swedish Migration Agency does not grant the residence permit, here’s how refunds work:

Full Refund

We pay back the entire fee if the rejection is caused by our mishandling of the application process.

No Refund

If the rejection was caused by misleading or incorrect information from the applicant (false documents, invalid education credentials, withheld information), no refund applies. The reason is always documented in the decision letter from Migrationsverket.

After You Arrive

Found a job? Started a business? We’re still here.

Once you land work in Sweden, you’ll need a regular work permit application — and the moment it’s submitted, you can begin working. We’ve been processing Swedish work permits since 2010 with a 95% success rate.

If you decide to start a business instead, the residence permit application based on your own business follows a similar pattern. Both services are available to job seeking visa graduates.

Note: work permit and business residence applications are charged separately from the job seeking visa service. See pricing →

Many clients return to us for the work permit step after landing a job. Same case manager. Existing rapport. Smoother handoff.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Who is eligible for this type of visa?
To be eligible, applicants need either: a degree corresponding to at least a 60-credit Master’s degree; a 120-credit Master’s degree; a professional degree worth 60–330 credits; or a postgraduate/PhD-level degree. Plus you must demonstrate financial means and arrange comprehensive health insurance (we help with this).
How long is the waiting time until a decision?
Approximately 6–8 months from the time of submission of the application.
Is the residence permit (visa) extendable?
No. The visa cannot be extended. For that reason, please consider carefully which duration (3–9 months) to choose. The longer the period, the more time you have to find work or set up a business — but the higher any health insurance cost will be.
Is health insurance included in the €890 price?
No. Health insurance is mandatory for this visa but not included in our fixed price. Many applicants arrange their own insurance, often at a lower cost from their home country. If you’d prefer us to handle it, we can purchase the policy on your behalf for an additional fee, with the cost depending on the duration you choose.
When is the payment due?
Payment is due once we have received and reviewed all necessary documents (passport, education, questionnaire, power of attorney, etc.). You receive a written offer with full terms. You have 7 working days to accept — and if you reject, there’s no obligation and we delete all documents you’ve shared.
Who evaluates my education documents?
The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) forwards your education documents to UHR (Universitets- och högskolerådet, the Swedish Council for Higher Education). UHR evaluates foreign educational credentials. Once UHR approves your education, they inform Migrationsverket, which decides on the residence permit. Swedworks does not evaluate your education — we make sure your application reaches the right authorities correctly.
Can I bring my family members on this visa?
Unfortunately not. This visa is for the main applicant only. But once you find a job (or decide to start a business), you can include your spouse and children in the work permit or business residence permit application that follows.
When I find a job, do I have to leave Sweden to apply for a work permit?
No — that’s the entire purpose of the job seeking visa. When you find a job, you only need to submit a new work permit application. As soon as it’s submitted, you can start working without leaving Sweden.
Can I start a company or buy an existing business in Sweden?
Yes. Once you decide to start a new business or buy an existing one in Sweden, you submit a residence permit application based on own company. As soon as that’s submitted, you can begin running your business while waiting for the decision.
Can I obtain the Swedish personal ID number (personnummer)?
Not directly on this visa. But as soon as you find a job lasting longer than 12 months, you can apply for the Swedish personnummer. If you start or buy a business, there may be possibilities to obtain a temporary personal number — discuss this with us during the engagement.
Do you help me find a job in Sweden?
No, that’s not our expertise. We specialise in work and residence permit application processing. We have published some guides on our blog about how to navigate the Swedish job market, but the job hunt itself is your responsibility.
